RadICS Platform

RadICS is off-the-shelf product that performs functions of a Safety PLC, certified to IEC 61508 SIL-3 in one channel. Each RadICS chassis contains one Logic Module (LM) and up to 14 option modules that perform I/O (AI, DO, etc.) and inter-chassis communications. With 32 I/O channels per I/O module, a single chassis can support up to 440 field signals. The optical inter-channel links to extension chassis multiply this to thousands of I/O points. LM performs all the User Application Logic, which is configured using RadICS Platform configuration toolset (RPCT) and extensive Function Block library (FBL). This enables end user to configure RadICS for applications ranging from nuclear power plant safety systems (e.g. RPS, ESFAS)  to High Pressure Protection Systems (HIPPS), or control applications requiring the fast 10 ms cycle time of RadICS.

The RadICS Platform was designed for nuclear safety I&C Systems which require high reliability or for non-nuclear industry safety critical applications.

Safety Evaluation Report (SER) for RadICS Platform was issued on July 31, 2019. That means Radiy’s RadICS field programmable gate array (FPGA)-based digital Instrumentation and Control (I&C) platform is certified by the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission (US NRC).

In May 2016 the world’s leading product certification and knowledge company Exida confirmed that the FPGA-based Safety Controller (FSC) RadICS, designed and manufactured by RPC Radiy, was assessed per the relevant requirements of IEC 61508. It was claimed that FSC meets requirements providing a level of integrity to Systematic Capability: SC 3 (SIL 3 Capable).

The IEC 61508 standard defines the requirements for suppliers to follow during product development to ensure that their products have a high level of resistance to random hardware and “systematic” design failures.

The exida IEC 61508 Certification Program offered the most comprehensive product review of Radiy’s product.

The process of auditing and certification included performing a detailed Failure Modes, Effects, and Diagnostic Analysis (FMEDA) which derives all failure rates for each failure mode of Radiy’s FPGA-based Safety Controller.
