Perspectives for Youth: Capstone Project Presentations of Future Engineers Took Place at Radiy
24.06.2025June 11, 2025 – the Power Unit No.5 of Kozloduy NPP (Bulgaria) was commissioned after an outage. This marked the successful completion of the modernization project at Kozloduy NPP to upgrade the outdated equipment of the Reactor Trip Systems and Reactor Power Control and Limitation Systems.
The final stage of the large-scale reconstruction and modernization of Power Units No.5 and No.6 is the launch of the Power Unit No.5 after scheduled outage. During the outage, Radiy specialists performed the following activities:
- Dismantling of the old equipment;
- Installation of new equipment of the Reactor Control and Protection System;
- Installation of the system and start-up and adjustment works.
In addition, Radiy specialists took part in single, independent and integrated tests, as well as participated in acceptance tests as part of an operating nuclear facility before commissioning.
The project was launched in March 2023, when the Ukrainian companies Radiy and Radics, together with the Bulgarian company Aden Group, won a bid for the modernization of Reactor Trip Systems and Reactor Power Control and Limitation systems for Kozloduy NPP Power Units No.5 and N o.6. The scope of work included the design, manufacture, supply and integration of these systems.
Radiy developed, manufactured, and tested the equipment for this project at its own sites. The company's products comply with nuclear and radiation safety rules and regulations, including cybersecurity, as well as international standards IEC 62645, 61508, 60880, 61513, 60987, 62443-4-1, IAEA Std 730-2014, and others.
The implementation of such large-scale international projects demonstrates the effectiveness of technological partnership between states, trust in Ukrainian engineering solutions, and the importance of integrating modern safety standards into critically important facilities. The cooperation between Radiy, Radics and Aden Group has become a vivid example of how joint efforts can ensure the sustainable development and reliable operation of nuclear energy for the benefit of all participating countries.
