Life extension project:

Window Alarm Annunciators of Main Control Room and

Secondary Control Area for Embalse Nuclear Power Plant (NPP), Argentina

RPC Radiy designed and manufactured Window Alarm Annunciators (WAA) of Main Control Room (MCR) and Secondary Control Area (SCA) and PHT pump motor speed measuring devices. The projects were performed by the Argentine utility NA-SA (Nucleoelectrica S. A.) to extend the operating life of Candu-6 reactor.

Window Alarm Annunciators were designed to replace obsolete equipment at Embalse nuclear power plant. Indication panels are used in Main Control Room (MCR) and Secondary Control Area (SCA) for indication of alarms associated with the plant’s Shutdown System One (SDS1), Shutdown System Two (SDS2) and Emergency Core Cooling (ECC) system.

Three main components were developed as part of the WAA system, two associated with the MCR, housed in the same Logic Card Assembly and using two separate Alarm Logic Controllers (ALC) in the same chassis, and a third one associated with the SCA. The MCR portions of the equipment are galvanically isolated from each other.

As a hardware platform for the equipment of Window Alarm Annunciators of MCR and SCA, the modules and chassis of the RadICS FPGA-based Safety Platform were used. This modules and chassis are certified as SIL3 under IEC 61508.

Before shipping the equipment to the client, RPC Radiy performed all required qualification tests which proved its stability in different operational conditions according to IEEE and IEC standards.

The equipment was manufactured in full accordance with the requirements of ISO 9001: 2008 and CSA Z299.1.
