NPP Equipment Modernization Program

Control System for Steam Generator Impulse Safety Devices for Rivne NPP

The delivery set of the Control System for Steam Generator Impulse Safety Devices is designed to modernize the existing control system for power units No. 1 and No. 2 of Rivne NPP. The Control System for Steam Generator Impulse Safety Devices was designed and manufactured by Radiy’s specialists in November 2025.  Radiy’s engineers modernized the remote and automatic control as well as the power control circuit of the steam generator impulse safety valves, which are designed to protect the SG from steam pressure increase.

The system was designed in line with the technical specifications approved by the Rivne NPP, the State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate of Ukraine, and finalized by Energoatom. The Control System for Steam Generator Impulse Safety Devices passed all necessary cybersecurity checks and a full suite of electromagnetic compatibility tests.

  • Enhanced nuclear and radiation safety due to high-speed response and precision control;
  • Compliance with up-to-date Ukrainian and international regulatory requirements for NPPs;
  • High reliability and fault tolerance of hardware and software components;
  • Modern cybersecurity measures and electromagnetic interference immunity;
  • Ease of operation and maintenance for NPP personnel;
  • Extended service life of steam generator equipment and reduced risk of abnormal situations;
  • Use of domestic technologies and Radiy's experience in NPP safety systems.

Radiy’s engineers improved the power control circuit by adding monitoring of control currents and integrity of control circuits for safety valve electromagnets, and equipped it with a diagnostic system providing continuous readiness monitoring of control circuits to execute emergency SG protection commands when needed.

Accordingly, Radiy's Control System for Steam Generator Impulse Safety Devices provides precise and rapid control of impulse safety devices, which play a key role in protecting equipment from emergency overloads and stabilizing steam generator parameters under various power unit operating modes.

Rivne NPP – 1 system in 2025.

The obsolete equipment had lost vendor support and maintainability, lacked control channel redundancy and electrical supply circuit duplication to facilitate testing and repairs.

The implementation of the upgraded control system will enable the Rivne NPP to improve its technological stability, compliance with modern nuclear and radiation safety requirements, and strengthen the overall operational reliability of the plant. This is an important contribution to the modernization of Ukraine's nuclear energy sector and ensuring stable and safe electricity production.
