NPP Equipment Modernization Program

Reactor Control and Protection System for the “Kozloduy” NPP, Bulgaria

Equipment of Kozloduy NPP equipment has undergone modernization to enhance the safety and reliability of its operation. The main components of this project included the implementation of the Reactor Trip System and Reactor Power Control and Limitation System. All systems are based on the RadICS Platform equipment and comply with international safety standards.

Key features of the Reactor Control and Protection System:

  • Continuous automatic monitoring;
  • Generation of alarm signals;
  • Procedures for group and individual control rods and other instrumentation systems;
  • Issuing commands for emergency or preventive protection;
  • Power discharge and limitation;
  • Reactor power decay in the event of unauthorized equipment shutdowns.
  • Use of two independent sets (diversity) to improve fault tolerance;
  • Systems have three-channel design and operate on the “2оо3” majority principle;
  • Fault detection rate is 99%;
  • “2оо3” majority principle implementation for generating output signals;
  • All diagnostic and functional data are stored in long-term archives.

4 systems were supplied to Kozloduy NPP, Bulgaria, in 2024 and 2025.

The modernization project for Power Units 5 and 6 at the Kozloduy NPP involved the installation of equipment utilizing Reactor Control and Protection Systems, which significantly enhances the safety and operational reliability of the plant. The implementation of these systems helps reduce the risk of accidents, ensuring the stable and safe operation of the NPP.
