29.07.2026July 15, 2026, acceptance testing was completed for the Position Indication Mechanisms PIM-18,8-1А, in line with the technical specifications “Position Indication Mechanisms. Technical Specifications”, approved by Energoatom, the State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate of Ukraine, and Radiy in line with the established procedures The equipment was manufactured in June 2026 at the Radiy’s production facilities.
The testing program included the following tests:
- Compliance of the mechanism with the requirements of the design documentation (DD), technical specifications (TS), and regulatory documentation (RD),
- Variation in the output analogue current signal,
- Relative intrinsic error of the output signal,
- Compliance with requirements for materials and purchased components for the mechanism,
- Completeness of the mechanism,
- Marking and packaging of the mechanism,
- Absence of external defects and personnel injury hazards associated with the mechanism.

Purpose of the Position Indication Mechanisms
The Position Indication Mechanism (PIM) is designed to monitor and transmit information on the actual position of the moving elements of equipment, such as gate valves, valves, drives, or other actuators.
The PIM's main functions are intended to:
- Monitor valve position (open, closed, or intermediate),
- Transmit signals to monitoring and control systems (APCS and I&C),
- Confirm execution of an open or close command,
- Improve process safety and prevent operator errors,
- Enable remote monitoring of equipment condition,
- Generate signals for automatic protection and interlocking algorithms.

Functions in the Power Industry
Position Indication Mechanisms are an important component of monitoring and control systems at NPPs. They provide reliable information of the position of isolation and control valves for use in automatic control algorithms, interlocks, and safety systems.
The PIM’s high accuracy and reliability enable the operator and digital I&C systems to confirm changes in equipment status promptly, which is critical to the safe operation of a power unit. The commission has approved the PIM’s test results to be successful.
The tested equipment will soon be shipped to the customer – Khmelnytskyi NPP. Radiy is committed to fulfilling its obligations without compromise, and the safety of Ukraine’s nuclear power plants is its primary objective.
